James Bruce Gilbert's Obituary
James B. Gilbert peacefully entered into rest on jANUARY 03, 2023 in San Diego, CA after battling a few medical issues. He was born on October 29, 1940 in Dayton Ohio to parents, James D and Jean N. Gilbert. He was the oldest of four children. He was known as Bruce by family and friends.
Bruce was respected by all who knew him. He was a resident of San Diego for over fifty years. He is survived by his wife of over forty-one years, Viriginia, and his two sons, James T and Michael B. He is survived by his siblings, Jeanne and Jack of Ohio and Larry of Iowa. He also is survived by six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild plus an additional grandchild and great grandchild that predeceased him.
Bruce was a hard worker. In high school, he worked in a grocery store. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and dedicated thirty years serving his country. Working his way through the ranks, he retired as a Chief Metalsmith. He loved working on aircrafts. After the military, Bruce worked as a truck driver for over twenty years and after retiring held a couple of other jobs to keep busy. Bruce enjoyed watching various sports, especially NASCAR and other car racing. He loved air shows and enjoyed camping, square dancing, and working on model cars and airplanes. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his pets. He liked talking with people and sharing stories, especially with a longtime friend and a friend in our neighborhood. It is evident that his absence will be felt by many and he will forever be loved, missed, and never forgotten. Bruce, may you rest in eternal peace.
