James McFarlin's Obituary
James ‘Jim’ McFarlin was born on November 29, 1937 to the proud parents Rev. Robert James and Mary Ann McFarlin of Millview, Florida. When James was a pre-teenager the family moved to Pensacola, Florida. He was one of fourteen children. He attended Judy Andrews Elementary School in Millview and studied and graduated from Washington Jr. Senior High School in Pensacola, Florida. James was always serious-minded, a go-getter and had a take-care-of business attitude. He enlisted into the United States Army from August 24, 1961 until August 23, 1963. After spending time in the U.S. Army, he joined the United States Navy where he remained an active and honorable soldier until his retirement. He also attended San Diego Community College. James lived an adventurous life and spent time away from his family for the safety and security of America. James had a deep devotion for his country and community. After his retirement from the armed forces, James embarked upon a second career. He worked for the City of San Diego Parks and Recreations.James is known for wearing red suspenders. He loved traveling, studying the Bible, landscaping, electronics, woodworking, meeting and helping people and assisting the homeless. Family was important to him. James loved and enjoyed taking care of his daughters and grandchildren. During ‘The Girls’ earlier years, almost every other weekend he would take his daughters to their special place, El Special Restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. His favorite kind of flower that he gave to them was Gladiolas. Jim loved his grandchildren and on his trips to Hawaii he would always remember to bring them back coconut figures and honeysuckle fragrances. James was a loving, caring and giving person.On July 13, 2016, before daybreak, at 3:50am, James McFarlin was called home to rest while residing at Rolling Hills Ranch. He will be missed by many and he leaves to mourn his death: two daughters, Donnette Maria (Bumpy) McFarlin and Janet Lorraine (Scamp-Jan) McFarlin Evans; four siblings, Juanita McFarlin, also known as Ynetta Jones, Samuel McFarlin, Isaac McFarlin, and Patricia McFarlin-Dowdell; companions, Donna Mary Presley and Dorothea Ann Albrektsen; and a host of relatives and friends.
