James Robert McGee's Obituary
James Robert McGee was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents Robert and Anna McGee also of Chicago, Illinois. James was the youngest of three sons (Bill McGee and Thomas McGee). Bill, James’ older brother (a Metallurgical Engineer), passed away and Thomas, his middle brother (a PhD in Psychology), is currently Living in Encinitas, California.James served his time in the United Stated Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.He completed his college studies in Chicago, Illinois and spent most of his career in the industrial field. After his military service, James managed International Harvester in Gary, Indiana and also managed hospital operations in Chicago.James relocated to Savannah, Georgia in the early 70’s to manage Chatham Steel there in Savannah as well as the Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina plants.James was married to his first wife Bonita William Nickos in Chicago, Illinois. They eventually divorced but together they had three sons: Richard (oldest), Jeffery (middle), and Paul (youngest), who all live in the San Diego area.James relocated to San Diego, California in 1977 where he took jobs at both the Port of San Diego and at Bumble Bee Tuna in Operations Management capacities.James eventually re-married twice shortly to Lasca Barymore Drew, and finally to his wife Christina Kennedy McGee (surviving) who also brought to the marriage two wonderful daughters (identical twins) Grace and Virginia Kennedy (also surviving).James was a proud Grandfather to his only Grandson, Nicholas McGee, son of his oldest son Richard McGee and Sylvia McGee.James was an avid sportman. He loved hunting, fishing, and spent a great deal of time teaching his sons about these sports and the outdoors.James enjoyed collecting coins, a family tradition, and he enjoyed listening to music from Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and Elvis Presley, just to name a few.James was a good man with kind at heart. James reached peace with with his sons, and in his final chapter experienced a period of euphoria and well-being after nearly two years of hospitalization for various health issues.James had the opportunity to speak with all of his sons and daughters and brother before his final trip home. He had the fortune of eating his last dinner at home with his wife and Richard’s dog Jackson. He passed peacefully at home on July 15th; however, he was revived and put on on life support at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA until his final passing on August 2nd, 2017.James was happy and satisfied with his life in the final chapter.His body was cremated during the Solar Eclipse on August 21st, 2017 between 9:30am and noon on that day. Symbolically he rose from the darkness and into eternal light that day. God bless his soul and may he always be remembered by his family and friends.
