James Elbert Mobley, 88, of National City, California, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, and was joyfully reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Doris, whom he married on November 14, 1958.
Born on October 13, 1937, in Everetts, North Carolina, James was the son of Dannie and Beatrice Mobley. He grew up with his sister, Ruby Bateman, and graduated from Robersonville High School.
After high school, James proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. Over his distinguished military career, he rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He worked as a technician on flight training simulators, contributing to the training of future astronauts, and later served at the Anti-Submarine Warfare Base in San Diego. His work demanded precision, intelligence, and unwavering dedication.
Following his military retirement, James continued serving others as a Hospital Medical Technician with General Electric. He also stayed connected to the naval community by managing and maintaining bowling alleys on base. the perfect blend of his mechanical talents and his lifelong love for bowling.
James lived a rich, curious, hands-on life. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, reading, carpentry, crossword puzzles, traveling, and all things planes and trains. He was steady, thoughtful, and endlessly resourceful, the kind of man who could fix anything and quietly guide those he loved.
James is survived by his sister, Ruby Bateman; his sons, Bryan Keith Mobley and Jerry Allen Mobley; his grandchildren, Bryan Scott, Amy Michelle, Nicholas Keith, and Rebecca Nicole Mobley; and his great-grandchildren, Naomi Jean, Scarlett Quinn, James Pierce, and Isla Rose, who brought him immeasurable joy.
James will be remembered for his devotion to family, his quiet strength, and a legacy built on honor, humility, and love.
