James Chester Roush's Obituary
James C Roush was born 24 Nov 1924 in Strasburg, Missouri to Ward and Gladys Roush. The Roush family relocated to the Chula Vista area in 1936. Jim was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in 1942 from Sweetwater Troop 66. He was a Purple Heart Veteran of the Army Air Corps during WWII, serving as navigator and bombardier in B-26’s in the European Theater. His working career was spent at North Island NAS. After retirement, Jim turned his rock hounding hobby into a jewelry business. He married Julia M Martin in San Diego in 1948. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage before Julia passed away in 2011. Five children blessed this marriage, all of whom survived him: James M Roush of San Diego, CA; William R Roush of Boston, MA; Janet R Stannard of The Woodlands, TX; Nancy R Christensen of Ramona, CA; and Martha R Wilson of Dover, NH. Jim was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Grandchildren: Sarah Roush, James Roush, Rebecca Brown, Jacob Roush, Aaron Stannard, Richard Stannard, Brandon Christensen, Heather Boling, Jonathan Wilson and Kate Pagenkemper. Great grandchildren: Archer Christensen, Lucas Brown and Ryder Brown.
James Roush was a master jeweler, fisherman and storyteller. His sense of humor, sharp wit and impressive memory endeared him to all who knew him. He was a kind man, with a giant heart, the central point of our family. Jim died 5 Jan 2021 in San Diego after a year-long battle with cancer. He will be missed.
