It is with profound sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of James Franklin Truman, who entered eternal rest on July 7, 2026, in San Diego, California, at the age of 66. Born on February 22, 1960, in Michigan, James lived a life defined by service, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family and country.
James was a man of remarkable character—kind, confident, generous, loyal, and hardworking. Those who knew him will remember his strong spirit, dependable nature, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. His presence brought comfort and strength to those around him, and his legacy of integrity and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
At the age of 17, James answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. He proudly served on active duty for 30 years as an Ordnanceman, dedicating his life to protecting and serving the nation. Following his military retirement, he continued his commitment to service as a civilian employee for an additional 18 years. In total, James devoted 48 years of faithful service to the United States, a testament to his patriotism, work ethic, and sense of duty.
Outside of his career, James found joy in the outdoors. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, and camping. Whether on the open road, in the mountains, or beside a quiet lake, he felt most at home surrounded by nature. A true outdoorsman and patriot, James embraced life with enthusiasm, adventure, and gratitude.
James was preceded in death by his beloved partner, Elaine Stubbs, whom he cherished deeply.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory. He is survived by his children, Mariechelle Calapan, Cristina Dodd, Cristopher Solayao, Brandon Truman, and James Truman. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Timothy Parker and Amanda Stubbs.
James was blessed with a cherished extended family, including his in-laws: Jeff Calapan, William Dodd, Shaina Truman, Ashley Whipple, and Feiy.
James was a proud grandfather whose greatest joy was watching his family grow. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Matthew, Kayla, Dylan, Kinsley, and Kaylee Dodd; Aidan, Hailey, Aston, and Atlas Truman; and Chloe and Julian Calapan. He was also blessed with step-grandchildren Willow, Winnie, Colton, and Kain, each of whom brought happiness and pride to his life.
