Joan Elizabeth Wetzel's Obituary
Joan Elizabeth Wetzel was born in Middletown, Connecticut on February 10th, 1936 to her proud parents Wayma Allison Stroud of Oklahoma and Margaret Mary Dooley of Connecticut. She pursued a degree in the medical field and was a registered nurse. She met the love of her life, Robert Edwin Wetzel, whom she married. From their loving union grew their family with 9 children. Joan moved to Lompoc, California in 1995 and then moved to Merrill Gardens in Santa Maria, California in December of 2018, where she resided for about 24 years. She felt very fortunate to have moved to Merrill Gardens with such a supportive staff and many new friends. She dedicated about 61 years creating a loving home and caring for her family. Joan passed away on August 17th, 2019 at the age of 83. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert, her 9 children; Robert Paul Wetzel, Patricia Pauline Juszak, Robin Elizabeth Greenman, Lisa Ann Breton, Brian Edwin Wetzel, Richard A. Wetzel, Sean Eugene Wetzel, David William Wetzel, Christina Lynn Lacy, her brother Francis, 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends and her memory will always be cherished. The family would like to thank the supportive staff at Merrill Gardens as well as the incredible hospice staff at Dignity Health for caring for her mother in her last days.
