Joel Shapov's Obituary
Joel Shapov died peacefully on August 11, 2022, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving siblings. Joel was born in Jalisco, Mexico. The second son of Isaias Shapov and Aida Wasserman. Joel will be remembered for his joyful and energetic spirit. Joel worked with the physicians in the burn center of UCSD for many wonderful years helping patients in his gentle and soothing way. He spent many hours caring for patients in the burn center. Joel was honored for saving the life of a surgeon who was being attacked and stabbed. Joel heard screams and jumped into action, held the perpetrator until the police were able to take him out, saving the doctors life.
During his retirement he was helpful to others who were in need. He was the life and light of the family. Joel was a strong and principled man and loved life. Joel leaves behind his other siblings: Elena Doria, Morris Shapov, Estela Lipschultz, Michael Shapov, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joel requested no memorial service. He will be intured at Home of the Peace with his father and mother.
