Joey was close friends with Harry in school at Mar Vista. They were roommates at one time. Joey, Oscar, Roy, and Harry all went into the military at the same time. He was such a fun, good-hearted man. Always kind, and yes, always ready to socialize. Last thing he messaged us was that we need to all get together some day… Joe you will truly be missed. We’ll miss your love, words of encouragement, and perpetual smile (no matter what you were going through). Our hearts and prayers to Loling and her family.

This man has been close to my heart for more than 50 years. We met at Mar Vista Junior High School in Imperial Beach in the early 60’s, and have been friends since. He was one of the gang, then, for all the years in between and will be forever. He was a gentle soul, cool and calm, confident and charming. For decades after graduating from Mar Vista High School he would bring his family back from Guam for our reunions. He was a joy to see, always smiling and laughing with whomever he was with. He was so proud of his family, his work in Guam’s Visitors Bureau and his culture. I feel so lucky to have known Joey, he was a wonderful person and will be missed by so many. My husband and I send our love to Loling and the family. Rest in Peace, Joey.

My memories include meeting Joey in 10th grade – the Social Butterfly, center of attention, truly believed all the girls wanted “him”. Trying to find a few $$ for gas and oil for Joey’s worthless Corvair, so we could drive around town and look “cool”. Joining the Army under the Buddy system plan, just after high school because we didn’t know what to do with ourselves. Meeting up again as we both started college after the service. Even though he never returned from Guam to be Best Man at my wedding, I forgave him. It has been an honor, a privilege and a joy each and every time he walked into my life through the years. He will always be “My Brother” and every time he crosses my heart I will say “Pinchy Joey” as I did throughout our long and wonderful years together as we grew into men, married and raised beautiful families.
