John Henry Blevins' Obituary
John Henry Blevins, also known as John-john or Papa, passed away on May 10, 2024, in San Diego, CA, at the age of 91. He was born on December 28, 1932, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. John was a well-respected, hardworking, and loving man who cherished spending time with his family and friends. Known for his wit and humor, he made a lasting impact on those around him. John was a man of few words but spoke with wisdom and kindness. He was described as disciplined, fair, and a man of his word. In his career, John served in the US Navy for over 20 years, earning award medals for his service in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring, he became a member of the American Legion Post 310 and was elected Commander in 2002. He also joined the Home Boys Club. John is survived by his brothers Joseph and Samuel Blevins, his granddaughters Joycelyn Walker and Antwanisha McDonald, great-grandchildren Noel, Zion, and Nylah, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patsy and Nathaniel Blevins, one sister, eight brothers, ex-wife Juanda Ragsdale-Blevins, and daughter Jonell Blevins. A viewing will be held on June 13, 2024, from 5-9 pm, with a service following on June 14, 2024, at 11:00 am at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary, Sallie Lynn Chapel, 430 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made by contacting Twanii at 619-245-1202 for more information. The Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary, Sallie Lynn Chapel, is assisting with arrangements. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
