John Howard Hansen's Obituary
John Howard Hansen, 89, passed away from natural causes on July 21, 2019. John, a California native, was born on December 1, 1929, in Lincoln Acres, San Diego County. As a young boy, he worked on his family’s farm in Sorrento Valley. He enlisted in the Navy in 1946 and served on the USS Jason, a Vulcan class repair ship that was in service from WWII through the Persian Gulf. John eventually left the Navy in 1949 due to government downsizing of the military following WWII. He then went to work for Rohr Industries in Chula Vista where he met the love of his life, Veda Marie Bowles. They were married May 7, 1949, a marriage that lasted 70 years. They purchased a home in National City, CA, where they raised their four children. John left Rohr Industries in 1952 to become a police officer with the National City Police Department. He worked the detective unit for several years working many high profile cases during his tenure. After 15 years with the police department, John was hired as an investigator for the Dept. of Justice, State of California, where he remained until his retirement as a supervisor in 1990. John spent his retirement doing what he loved, working on his property in Jamul, CA, where he and Veda built their dream home in 1976. Veda was never far from his side as they were inseparable. John was greatly loved and is survived by his wife, Veda; children: Patsy (Joel), Michael, Dana, (Julie); his four grandchildren: Derelynn, Staci, Jeffrey, and Melissa and great grandchildren: Spencer, Gage, Adam and Ella. John was predeceased by his youngest son, Jeffrey in 1987.
