John Cardell Washington's Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Cardell Washington, a Greenwood Service Director for 15 years.
John joined our Greenwood family back in 2009. He was hired by former Care Center Manager, Stacy Miles.
John quickly became a father figure, uncle, brother and friend to many Greenwood Employees over the years.
John never met a stranger. He was a gentle giant with an infectious smile.
He brought care and compassion to so many families over the years. Families and Clergymen would often times recognize John from past services and greet him with a handshake and big smile.
John was someone we could depend on day or night to work visitations and services. He was ALWAYS available. He truly understood and embraced his calling as a Service Director.
John was born November 23, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Lousianna. After completing his formal education, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country. John moved to San Diego, CA after his Honorable Discharge. He met and married his loving wife Van, who preceded him in death in November, 2017.
To their union, 2 sons, John Jr. and Wesley were born.
John was a member of New Hope Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board and in other capacities for many years under the leadership of Pastor Milton Chambers.
John was employed by The San Diego Union Tribune Newspaper . He worked there for several years before he retired.
After John retired, he had a desire to continue to serve others.
John joined our Greenwood family as a Service Director and made it his mission to be available and ready to serve all cultures and faiths.
He also assisted with training staff members to ensure they knew the expectations of all cultures and faiths.
When John wasn't working, he loved spending time with his grandson Jaden, traveling to visit his family in Louisiana and abroad. He also loved enjoying good food with family and co-workers.
John passed peacefully at his home on Monday, March 11, 2024. His sudden passing was unexpected and left us broken hearted.
May he rest in peace and his memory be a blessing to those who knew and loved John.
Please keep John's family and the Service Director Department in your thoughts & prayers.
