John Robert Whipple, Sr.'s Obituary
John R. Whipple, 85, of San Diego, California passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was born on October 11, 1931 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Frederick & Henrietta Whipple. He is predeceased by his brother Albert F. Whipple. John entered the United States Marine Corps at age 17. Staff Sergeant Whipple served in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis, and was assigned embassy duty in Hong Kong & Indonesia among others. While on embassy duty in Indonesia, he met and married his wife of 56 years, Elsiana. The couple had 2 children, John & Leticia. After retiring from the Marine Corps, John worked for the United States Postal Service for 23 years. After retiring from the USPS, John enjoyed cruising, traveling, and reclining in front of the T.V. with a bowl of ice cream every night! He is survived by his loving wife, Elsiana A. Whipple, his son John R. Whipple, Jr. and wife Rosa L. Whipple, his daughter Leticia E. Baez and husband Victor M. Baez, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A full military honor committal service will be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 at 2:30pm at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122. Please join us for a reception immediately following at Chula Vista Presbyterian Church, 940 Hilltop Drive, Chula Vista, CA 91911 in the Family Life Center.
