Jonathan Alexander Newlin-Laurin's Obituary
JONATHAN ALEXANDER NEWLIN-LAURIN
11/23/98 – 2/7/23
Jonathan Alexander Newlin-Laurin, 24, of San Diego, CA, died Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in San Ysidro, CA. Born on Nov. 23, 1998, at Sharp Hospital in San Diego, he was the second of two sons born to Charisse Renee Eldridge of Idaho, and was a grandson and adopted son of Tom and Vivian Laurin of Chula Vista, CA. He graduated from Montecito High School in Ramona, CA, in 2016. He worked locally as a construction laborer. His love of sports led him to play baseball at Las Palmas Little League in National City, CA, where was an All-Star four times. His teammates lovingly nicknamed him “Chuckie” for his bright red hair and the moniker stuck. While attending Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, he earned Rookie of the Year honors in water polo. He also played basketball for their junior-varsity team, making many friends along the way. Jon was a very loving son, grandson, nephew, brother and cousin. Words used to describe him have included funny, happy, goofy, carefree, and “pocket full of sunshine.” He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, water polo, video games, and music – especially hip-hop. He was very close to his brother, Louis Miguel Sotelo-Laurin, with whom he spent many hours playing sports and video games. He is predeceased by his maternal great-grandparents, Louis Ramirez Sr. and Ramona Jorquez of National City; paternal great-grandparents, Theodore Eldridge and Cathrine Henne of Spring Valley, CA; uncles, Reuben Ramirez of San Diego, Ted Eldridge of Spring Valley, Scott Eldridge of Spring Valley, Albert Navarro IV of San Diego, and Louis Ramirez Jr. of National City; and aunts, Sylvia Calderon of El Cajon, CA, and Cathrine Navarro of Chula Vista. He is survived by his brother, Louis; birth parents, Johnny Newlin and Charisse Renee Eldridge; adoptive parents, Tom and Vivian Laurin of Chula Vista; grandparents Wesley Eldridge and Donna Gentz-Wallis of Ramona; aunts, Christi Ramirez, Chaundice Eldridge, Cecilia Eldridge and Cher Eldridge, all of Chula Vista, Wesleigh Eldridge of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Eldridge of San Diego, Annete Ramirez of San Diego, Diane Golingan of Oceanside, CA, and Lisette Laurin Salcedo (Enrique) of Spring Valley; uncle Danny Calderon of Murietta, CA; and cousins too numerous to list here. A viewing and service will be held on March 11 at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Ave., San Diego, CA, in the Salli Lynn Chapel, between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
