Castro, Jose Yap's Obituary
The family of Jose Yap Castro is saddened to announce his passing on the early morning hours of December 1st, 2024. At 83 years old he passed away in his home after a 2-year battle with lung cancer.
Jose was born to Conrado and Lourdes Castro on December 7th, 1940, in San Roque, Philippines. He grew up in a big family stepping up as a father figure after his own father’s passing at an early age. After Jose graduated Cavite City High School in 1958, he joined the United States Navy in 1960, devoting 22 years of service including wartime during the Vietnam War. Jose traveled all around the world, advanced to Chief ranking earning several awards and medals. While stationed in San Diego, California, he met his wife Guadalupe Castro where they were married on November 22nd, 1975. In their early years of marriage, they lived in several cities including Perth, Australia, Norfolk Virgina and New Orleans, Louisiana. Jose and Guadalupe went to have 3 children, Lorri, Joel and April.
After retiring from the Navy, Jose settled in San Diego, starting his career with the County of San Diego’s Sheriff’s Department as a Food Services Supervisor. He retired after 20 years of service.
In his retired years, he enjoyed tending to his home, cooking for his family, spending time with his grandchildren including walks around neighborhood, and watching old western shows.
Jose was a family man, a provider, a pillar for his loved ones. He instilled strong family values that will carry on through the generations. He was an incredible individual who’s life experiences gave him wisdom that he was always willing to share. He was loved by many as a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, often called Dad, Papa, Uncle Pepe, Joe and Pat.
Jose was predeceased by Conrado Castro; father, Lourdes Yap Castro; mother, Dionisa Castro; sister, Conrado Castro; brother, Abdon Castro; brother.
Jose is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Castro. His children; Lorri Castro, Joel Castro, and April (Castro) Macias. His grandchildren; Jennalyn Ruiz, Soleil Castro, Santiago Macias and Anthony Macias. His siblings; Julieta Zapanta, Ochel Del Rosario, Corazon Poblete, Leonardo Castro, Lucila Barbaco and Maria Opperman and their families.
Burial will take place at the Miramar National Cemetery on Friday, December 20th at 10am.
