I was so blessed to know Joe and his wonderful family. He was always so kind and always thinking of others. I loved being with him, watching old Westerns, (he called them simply, “cowboys”). He loved listening to classic Portuguese music and tending to the garden in his backyard. We made a birdbath out there because he loved watching them play in the water, it gave him slot of laughs. We were always joking and laughing together. He taught me how to play the game of aggravation, that was fun! I learned a lot of Portuguese words and songs too, not just from him but his wife, Benilde also. He shared many stories of growing up and his life in Pico and the Acores islands. I loved those stories!
He was a real blessing in my life and I loved him. I will miss him always, especially his sweet smile, Life won’t be the same without him, but I know he is celebrating an incredible family reunion in heaven.
