In Loving Memory of Josephine “Josie” Asanza Brown
Josephine "Josie" Asanza Brown was born in Baguio City, Philippines, one of eight children born to Frederico and Restituta Asanza. She shared her childhood with siblings Manuel, Jamie, Carmen, Anita, Gloria, her twin brother Joseph, and Romeo. After their father’s retirement from the U.S. Army, the family settled in Oas, Albay. Josie later attended Lyceum of the Philippines University, where she studied English.
A woman of deep faith in God and unwavering strength, Josie lived her life with love, grace, and a heart devoted to helping others as a teacher while living in Manila, Philippines. With her first husband Roberto Tugade, she had three children—Annette, Bobby (Roberto), and Annabelle.
In 1969, driven by dreams of providing better opportunities for her family, Josie made the courageous decision to move to the United States, arriving first in Los Angeles. Over time, many of her family members joined her. Josie built a successful career at AT&T as a circuit designer. Known for her diligence and commitment, she worked for 20 years without missing a single day of work, earning multiple awards for her dedication. After several years in Los Angeles, Josie moved to San Diego, where she met and married Navy Master Chief Wallace “Wally” Brown. The couple shared a loving life in San Diego until Wally’s passing in 1996.
Josie’s zest for life was unmistakable. With her signature green pen, a radiant smile, and always dressed to impress—often sporting a sequined hat and matching fanny pack—she stayed active well into her later years. She loved traveling the world, gardening, listening to music (especially her favorite, Elvis Presley), and creating beautiful memories with her family.
Her legacy lives on through her daughters, Annette (and her husband Mark) and Annabelle (and her husband Todd), as well as her six beloved grandchildren—Mark, Ashley, Devin, Casie, Malan, and Alexis. Josie is also survived by her siblings Anita, Joseph, and Romeo, who cherish her memory alongside the countless friends and family whose lives she touched.
Josie will be remembered as a woman of strength, sparkling style, and a generous heart. She lived her life with courage and joy, always putting family and faith at the center of everything she did. We find comfort in knowing that Josie is now at peace in Heaven, reunited with her beloved son Bobby and those who passed before her, and resting in the loving arms of the Lord.
Her spirit and memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew her forever.
