Joyce Ruth Brown's Obituary
In the early morning of April 5th, 2020 our Lord Jesus Christ blessed our family by receiving into his heavenly kingdom, our beloved- Joyce Ruth White-Brown.
Joyce’s life began in Tucson, Arizona, where she was born to Freddie Oleatha White Sr. and Major Earl White. The family relocated from Arizona to Texas. The family would eventually settle from Texas to San Diego where Joyce resided for over sixty years and received most of her education including her Masters Degree from the University of Springfield. Her life and working career was highlighted by giving her time and skills to help others achieve their goals. During the mid-nineteen nineties, while working for Consolidated Environmental Services Inc., Joyce was a key organizer and instrumental in promoting the Encanto Street Fairs on Imperial Ave in San Diego. The event took place for many years and brought thousands of dollars to the vendors, stores, and people in the community. Few people ever knew Joyce Brown was one of the ones to spearhead this event. Later in her career, while working as a community organizer and advocate for Mid-City Family Resource Center, she assisted the San Diego City Council in cleaning up and refurbishing the parks in City Heights and advocated to MTS for more residential bus stops to assist senior residents. Joyce felt her biggest accomplishment while working for the Family Resource Center was feeding the hungry and assisting hundreds of youths to fill out college applications. Some of her favorite past times were politics, reading, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. Family was essential to Joyce and she found her greatest joy and pride in her daughter Stephanie. She leaves to mourn her passing Stephanie, her son-in-law Herman Bryant III (Dale), her six grandchildren Devyn, De’Mona, Herman IV, Jordyn, Marquise, and Typhani. She was very proud of all of their accomplishments and loved being apart of helping them achieve their goals. Family outings with her grandchildren were a big part of Joyce’s life. Even with her illness she continued to be there for every major event in their lives. She also leaves to mourn her passing sisters; Ophelia Lard (San Diego, CA), Marjorie Golden (San Diego, CA), Shelia White (Las Vegas, NV), and Sandra Fitzgerald (Nashville, TN), nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Our hearts are filled with sadness and our tears will linger but, forever we say with joy: “Soar high our guardian angel let your wings open wide and may our Heavenly Father let you watch over us here on earth until we meet again in our eternal home” We Love You! The family of Joyce Ruth White-Brown would like to say, thanks and acknowledge all the texts, calls, and cards expressing your love, sorrow, and sadness for our loss. We would also like to extend our sadness to you that due to the worldwide state of events, we are unable to mourn with extended family and friends.
