Justo Amador Caballero's Obituary
Dr. Justo Amador Caballero June 6, 1896 – April 21, 1957Justo Amador Caballero was born in 1896, in Huanuco, Peru from farmer parents. He was raised there alongside of his 9 siblings and when he was of age, his parents sent him to Lima, Peru’s capital, to pursue a career in medicine. He then attended the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in the sciences. Justo’s ambition to be a doctor did not stop him there and he continued on to attend San Fernando Medical School, where he fulfilled further education and did his residency at the Maison de Sante hospital in Lima.He fell in love and married a beautiful woman, “Pepita”, in 1938. They had 4 children who were raised with love, discipline and values.Through the years he blossomed in the community and became a recognized surgeon who people grew very fond of. He not only practiced medicine 4 hours a day attending the general public, but he also performed countless hours of charitable work with the less fortunate. He also treated patients of oriental descent which allowed him to learn the Japanese language. Over the years, he became the President of the Medical Association of Maison de Sante, a renowned French run hospital. He was named honorary captain of Lima’s Fire Department and attended their medical needs. His dedication to his profession was admirable as he felt his duty on this earth was to serve God with this gift he was given. He was a devoted Catholic and before performing surgery he would always start with the sign of the cross and a humble prayer for guidance.Justo learned French fluently during his time in medical school. In his free time he enjoyed reading, in fact, this is how he learned English, and went on to become fluent in both. He taught himself to play the piano and did so with such feeling that only a true artist could. The Argentinean Tango was the music he loved to play and dance to. Ironically, 2 of his grandchildren were born in Argentina. He took pleasure in playing with his colleagues Rocambor, a card game. Around his neighborhood, he was known as the man who, during the evening hours, serenaded the area with Argentinean and Italian music, as he played with his parlor window wide open.A man who did it all! Justo was a loving father and dedicated husband that did the utmost to ensure that his family had a happy life. After being interred in Peru for over 50 years, his remains were brought to the United States to join Pepita and to be together once again in their final resting place. Justo Amador Caballero, M.D. His name translated to English as Justo which means JUST Amador which means LOVING Caballero which means GENTLEMAN A truly Just and Loving Gentleman He honored his birth name until the end of his life.
