Kalliopi Christakos' Obituary
Kalliopi (Popi) Sassalou Christakos was born on March 23, 1922, in the charming town of Zaharo, Greece - just 15 miles south of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic games. She was the youngest of five children, with one sister and three brothers.
Popi married her beloved husband, Sarantos of 74 years, in Athens, and they immigrated to the United States in 1966, and settled in San Diego, CA.
Popi is lovingly survived by her two children and their spouses, Christos Christakos (Dora Christakos) and Mary Christakos Kaisarli (Manoli Kaisarli) as well as her four cherished grandchildren Kelly Christakos Kaitson (Paul Kaitson), Christopher Christakos, Michael Christakos and Marietta Kaisarli (Kostas Mavroeidis) and her greatest joy Andrew Kaitson, her great-grandson. She is also lovingly survived by numerous nieces and nephews both in the United States and in Greece.
Popi’s remarkable 104 years were marked by a deep love for God, a devotion and care for her family and faithful service to her local parish of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. She connected deeply with friendships and valued their presence in her life while being a life-time member of Philoptochos, the church’s philanthropic ministry.
Popi will be remembered for her gentleness, compassion for others and devotion to those she loved.
May her memory be eternal.
