Kam Tat Christopher Ching's Obituary
Kam Tat Chris Ching passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on January 25th, 2018.Born in 1937 in Macau, China, he was the second eldest of nine children. He spent his childhood in mainland China, his youth in Hong Kong, and his adulthood in England, Canada and the United States.Chris had been involved in the restaurant industry for over 40 years in Canada, Massachusetts, and Alabama, starting as a waiter and owning his own restaurant in Alabama for 30+ years. He also owned an optical services business in Alabama.Chris traveled extensively through Southeast Asia and continental Europe. He enjoyed the Opera, the nightclubs, and his many friends in various countries. Throughout his life, Chris had an enduring curiosity and interest in technology. He was self-taught in Solar Power and Aquaponics. He enjoyed tinkering for the simple joy of making things work.Chris was a loving and dutiful son, and became the primary caregiver for his mother for over ten years. His love, patience and dedication to her well-being was extraordinary. The bond between mother and son was inspiring to the younger generation.He was preceded in death by his mother Angelin Lai Kuen Chan, father Ming-Wah Ching, wife Betty Low Ching, and his brother Joseph Eugene Ching. He is survived by his daughter Christina Ching of Hong Kong, and seven siblings: Grace Hom of San Diego, CA, Theresa Pon (Seng) of San Francisco, CA, David Ching (Josephine) of Quincy, MA, Noreen Somboonpakorn of Bangkok, Thailand, John Ching (Lilly) of San Francisco, CA, Domenica Ching (wife of Joseph) of San Diego, CA, Rebecca Robertson (Gary) of Las Vegas, NV, and Vivian Dryer (Ted) of Grand Rapids, MI, 23 nieces and nephews, and 21 great-nieces and great-nephews. All will remember him as a devoted son, loving father, supportive brother, respected uncle and loyal friend.
