It is with a heavy heartfelt feeling to hear that my dear friend and Brother Johnny Wong’s passing. My profound sorrows and deepest sympathies go with my dear sister Annie, Nancy's family, and Brother Johnny’s family-in-large during this difficult time. Brother Johnny was more than just a friend to me—he was like my own big brother, always there with kindness, guidance, and unwavering support.
Over thirty one years ago, when I first arrived in the United States, Brother Johnny warmly welcomed me with open arms. He brought me into his home, showed me the beautiful City of San Diego, and introduced me to some of my first American experiences—enjoying steak, sushi, and family outings. He made sure I never felt alone; often bringing his family and relatives to gathering and travel around, such as the Universal Studios and making me feel like a special member of his own family. Because of him, I had a home in San Diego—a true sweet home away from home.
During my college years and later while serving in the military, Brother Johnny’s home address became my own home of records. That’s how much he meant to me. He was a generous man, always willing to lend a helping hand. When I was searching for my first car, he took it upon himself to help me negotiate with the owner, ensuring I got the best quality second hand car. His kindness and selflessness were unmatched—he treated the matters of others as if they were his own.
Brother Johnny had a passion for singing, and his karaoke performances were always admired, drawing well-deserved applause from everyone around. He loved life and was always in a happy mood, his smile lighting up anywhere he was in. He enjoyed sports, loved playing soccer with friends, and was also quite skilled at golf. His enthusiasm for life was infectious, and his joy in these activities was a testament to his vibrant spirit.
He was not only a wonderful friend but also a loving father, a thoughtful grandfather, and a great gentleman whose generosity knew no bounds.
I struggle to accept that he is gone. It is difficult to believe that someone so full of life and kindness has left us. But perhaps, he has simply gone ahead—ahead to a place where he can continue his spirit of helping others, just as he always did here on Earth. His legacy of love, generosity, and friendship will undoubtedly live on in all the lives he touched.
Brother Johnny, I miss you deeply, I thank you for everything you had done for me. Your presence in my life was a gift, and your absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. My heartfelt condolences go to your family, and I know that your spirit will always be with us. May you soul rest in eternal peace.
