Katherine R. Polus' Obituary
Kathrine Richardson Polus, age 105, of San Diego, passed away on May 26, 2023.
Katherine was born on January 15, 1918 to Marion L Richardson and Louis C Pohl, in San Diego, California. In her youth, she enjoyed playing tennis and softball. She played many tennis tournaments in Balboa Park, and also was a member of the Broadway Beauties softball team. After Katherine graduated from San Diego High School in 1936, she went on to apply for a filing job at Convair Aerodynamics. She expected to be filing paperwork, but much to her surprise, she ended up filing parts for military aircraft during World War II.
After Convair, she went on the road and traveled the United States working for an advertising agency, in which she was a business partner of. While on the road, traveling from city to city with her business partner, she learned to drive in a Cadillac, which became her car of choice. Throughout Katherine’s life, she worked in many different career fields. She helped manage a bar and restaurant, worked in her father’s radio shop in downtown San Diego, managed real estate properties, volunteered for the national guard with her father during WWII, and eventually kick started her life long career in accounting. In fact, she was often asked to be the treasurer of the travel and car organizations she belonged to.
In 1938, Kathrine married her childhood sweetheart, Allan Frank Polus in San Diego, California. Katherine and Allan went on to have two children, Allan Jr. and Walter Polus.
In 1980, Katherine retired and spent her time traveling North America with her travel and car clubs, staying active outdoors, dinning at her favorite restaurants, learning technology, playing solitaire on the computer, reading, doing crossword puzzles and enjoying time with her family.
Katherine was predeceased by her father Louis C Pohl, mother Marion L Richardson, husband Allan F Polus, son Walter Polus, grandchildren Patricia and Neal Polus. She is survived by her son, Allan Polus, granddaughters: Ann, Julie, Marilyn, Margaret, Marci, Monique, and many beloved great and two times, great grandchildren. She was a wonderful and beautiful woman, full of life and laughter the true matriarch of the Polus family.
Services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park on July 22, 2023 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local hospice organization. Thank you in advance from the Polus family.
