Kay Zetterlund Obituary
Katherine (Kay) Zetterlund, of San Diego, CA passed away on January 9, 2025. She was born August 20, 1935 in Maryland to parents Wesley and Anna Johnson. Kay was a woman of unwavering faith. She loved Jesus foremost throughout her life and even though Alzheimer’s took many things from her, she always knew the Lord was near. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, hospitality and her deep love for her family.
Kay is survived by her children, Debera (Gary) Hendricks, Julie Mills nee Zetterlund, Brad (Joan) Zetterlund, Tim (Erica) Zetterlund, Lisa Sawyer nee Zetterlund, Steve (Donna) Zetterlund; Grandchildren, Steve (Melody) Hendricks, Dawn Lewis, Matt (Megan) Hendricks, David (Giulianna) Zetterlund, Kim Zetterlund, Brittany Zetterlund, Cameron (Ashlee) Zetterlund, Peter Zetterlund, Leah Zetterlund, Michael Sawyer; Great-grandchildren, Garren Hendricks, Devon (Jay) Mejia, Luke Hendricks, William Hendricks, Wesley Hendricks, Jameson Zetterlund, Bennett Zetterlund, Stetson Zetterlund, Jolie Zetterlund; and Great great-grandchild, Holden Mejia. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law, Robert (Lela) Johnson of Hemet, Ca. and her sister in law, Dr. Joan E. Zetterlund of Northbrook, Il., as well as 2 nephews and 2 nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Russell Paul Zetterlund in 1996; Son in- law, Steve Sawyer (2023), her brother Wesley Johnson, and sister Lorraine Polance.
Kay’s family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Covenant Living at Mt Miguel for providing a beautiful and loving home for Kay throughout the 8 years she lived in the community. The Covenant Living spiritual and medical staff and so many more, truly loved Kay right up to heaven’s gate. We are forever grateful.
A memorial service will be held at Covenant Living at Mt Miguel, 325 Kempton Street, Spring Valley, Ca - Saturday, February 1st at 2 pm – Bailey Center
Kay’s ashes will join her husband Russ, in a memorial bench at Greenwood Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
