Kathleen Anne Bianco's Obituary
Kathleen “Kathie” Anne Bianco passed away Monday May 19th, at 3:35am in her sleep at age 74. Kathie had been struggling with significant health challenges in the last few years and a week prior, she made the choice to decline aggressive procedures and instead selected comfort care for her remaining time. She passed at Kaiser Zion Medical Center in San Diego.
A lifelong resident of San Diego, she was born Kathleen Anne Hall, Nov 9, 1950 in Chula Vista to Earle C. Hall and Elizabeth “Betty” Hall. Kathie was the oldest of three children, with her younger brothers Bruce and Ronn soon following. A graduate of theSamuel F. B. Morse High Schoolclass of 1969, she made her career as an electronics buyer for government & military contractors in the San Diego area. It was at work that she met her husband Thomas“Merlin”Bianco.
Kathie and Merlin were married Dec 30, 1978 in San Diego, CA. They raised their two children Thomas Mathew Bianco, born 1980, and Andrea Bianco Johannessen, born 1983, in a house on Appleton St in the Claremont neighborhood of San Diego. Merlin moved out prior to the couple’s divorce in, 1999, but Kathie continued to live in the house in Claremont for 45 years where she enjoyed beautiful flowers and caring for Orchids, as well as the occasional cat or two.
Kathie was thrilled to become “Grammie” in 2010 with the birth of her first grandchild, Claire “Star” Elizabeth Johannessen, followed three years later by Katharine “Felix” Quinn Johannessen.
Kathie is survived by her two brothers, Bruce Hall and Ronn Hall, her children Thomas Mathew Bianco and Andrea Bianco Johannessen, and grandchildren Star Johannessen and Felix Johannessen.
A Memorial Service service will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 - Garden Chapel 10 am
Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, 92113. Committal and Reception to follow. All are welcome - RSVP to [email protected]. If you wish, flowers can be sent to Greenwood on the day of the service in Kathleen’s name.
