Kenneth Eugene Milburn

I first met Ken and Ruth around 1957 when they moved to Oxnard, CA (being transferred by the Navy from the Philippines). I had just started Junior High School. We got to know them both very. Over the years, we always managed to stay in touch. I joined the Navy in 1965 and remember visiting them, immediately following my boot camp graduation, at one of their homes in the San Diego area (not the one in Bonita). I can remember staying with them in their Bonita home when they were living in the new basement while the upper floors were being restored. I will always remember Ken and Ruth. They were wonderfully kind people and I felt as though they were part of my family. My heart was saddened to learn of Ken's passing and will miss him. Even though it has been years since I last saw him, we exchanged Christmas letters/notes each year. David Schmitt YNCS, U.S. Navy Retired

During our time at the Museum, we were fortunate to have met Ken. His smile and his spirit made all the jobs that more fun when he was there. His stories about his youth and his career were wonderful to hear. We might have egged him on, but he gladly obliged. We will miss him greatly. Ann and Christine Del Carmen

I feel blessed to have gotten to know Ken at the Bonita Museum. With my being new to Bonita, I absorbed his stories about the past of Bonita. As well, it was inspiring to hear of his time in the service. I will miss this smiling and helpful man, truly a part of Bonita. Condolences to his family and friends. Daryl Hern

When I first arrived at the Museum, I heard Ken's name used when ever some handyman type job was needed. Hearing about all his skill, I expected some strapping, brawny guy to show up. But the first time I met him I realized that his wealth of skills and complete willingness to help were far more valuable that any amount of muscles. No project was too small (repairing tiny figures from the Magi Collection) for Ken to put all of his effort into making things better for the Museum. I also cherish all the stories he told me about restoring his house in Bonita. Sadly, we will not see his like again. Condolences to all his family and friends.

I've only known Ken a short time, but will always remember he came into the museum with a smile and would ask what needed to be done. If there wasn't anything to be done he would hang out and tell a story. Sometimes it would be a repeat, but I would never tell him. Prayers to his family. Katherine Brydon.

Memories of Ken from the early days at the museum are priceless, so few people, so much to be done, Ken always there to help with a smile. He and Jim sharing memories of flying, (one incident where he was the lowest ranking person aboard but he was the plane commander) also gardening. I have my beautiful Dudlia succulent from his garden on my balcony. How he cleaned the little league ball field trash (before it blew over in his yard). Ken was special. Peggy and Jim Burley

Ken was a gentle, hardworking man. He and his wife Ruth were very helpful in the early days of the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center. Ken continued to be a volunteer handyman at the museum after Ruth's death until recent times. Bonita has much to be thankful for Ken's great community contributions.
