Kiyoko Horiye's Obituary
Kiyoko Horiye – SAN DIEGO – On Saturday, November 9, 2019, Kiyoko (Mayeda) Horiye peacefully passed away. Born in Los Angeles on July 27, 1937 to Toru and Kimiko Mayeda, she spent a portion of her childhood at the Japanese-American internment camp in Manzanar, California. She graduated from Oceanside-Carlsbad Union High School and then began a career as a bookkeeper at a financial institution. She eventually moved to San Diego where she met and married Charlie Horiye on April 20, 1966. Kiyoko was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Baking chocolate chip cookies, crocheting and classic movies are some of the things she enjoyed most. Kiyoko is survived by her husband, Charlie; her son, Joseph and his wife, Vicki; her daughter, Nancy; and grandson, Carter. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kiyohara and Masaki and sister, Reiko (Mayeda) Nagata. Private funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30 at Salli Lynn Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary with a private burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
