From Shirley Kenson
The last weeks of my Mom's long life were the most peaceful I've ever seen for her. On December 3rd, my Mom, Lapaz Knudsen, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Ninety-one!!!! She absolutely meant to live to be 100 and according to what she told someone just before she passed, she did....she said "I'm 100 years old". Yay for you, Mom, you did it ... the perfect example that "age is a state of mind:"
An unrelentingly competitive person, the fights she fought, her determination, T as in Tough, Tough as in Nails, her infamous stubbornness -- these were just some of the things that made her her. Mix in her increasing Dementia, it wasn't always good. But it wasn't always bad. She even chose sweet, funny and affection sometimes. That's not to say it was easy to be around her.
Those of you who know me, know it was not easy, not for me and not for my brothers, Lorens and Bill. But I still loved her, we still loved her and we did our very best for her always & still. When you think of that girl from the Philippines, full of hopes and dreams and making life happen in a huge way, knowing the way her Dementia was frustrating and depressing for her, knowing how much she missed our Dad everyday for all those 11 years since he passed, you forgave her and you still loved her.
Honor and gratitude to you, My One and Only Mom. Alas! Peace be yours. Say hi to Dad.
