Laura Jean Pierce's Obituary
Laura Jean Belfield was born August 02 1933, the last of 10 children born to David and Molly Belfield in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Raised in a household that included 7 brothers and 2 sisters, she was the youngest, it’s easy to see how she became the loving and caring person she was. Laura did all of her formal education in Roanoke Rapids.
After high school, Laura married Cecil Pierce. Their marriage produced 3 sons, 2 born in North Carolina and 1 born in California.
After the move to California in 1960, the family settled in San Diego, where Laura started working for the department store, Walker Scott. Laura also found a new church home at St. Andrews Presbyterian church, where she became a Deaconess, the unofficial “Mother of the Church” and was on the Concerned Circle committee.
Laura started driving for San Diego transit in 1977 where she enjoyed meeting new friends on her various routes and other drivers within the company.
Laura had a very caring and giving heart. She was willing to give a helping hand, cook something or share a hug with whoever needed it. She loved to play bingo and socialize with friends and neighbors.
Laura’s sons gave her 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, all of whom she enjoyed having at the house, spoiling them like any grandmother would.
Laura retired from San Diego transit in 2002 and started to enjoy the fruits of her hard work over the years. Spending more time with all the friends she’s enjoyed since moving to San Diego was one of the things she had looked forward to for a long time. Her daily routine included visiting her best friend across the street, enjoying the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and baking and doing projects for the church.
In 2009 Laura’s health began to fade. She fell at home, ended up in the hospital and eventually in a long term nursing care facility, where her physical health continued to decline.
In May of 2021, Laura ended up in the hospital ICU where , on June 15th, she got the call to go home to the Lord. She is preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters. She leaves her sons to mourn, Larry (Audrey), Ricky (Lynn), Bobby and a host of relatives and friends. She has left a lasting impression on everyone she has ever come in contact with, and will be missed by all.
