"Lee" Bonner's Obituary
Woodley Bonner, lovingly known as "Lee", "Mom", and "Gramma", was born on the 29th day of May, 1925 in Richmond Virginia to parents Jessie McKinley and Annie Faulk McKinley. When she was 3 years old, she moved to Jamaica, Queens, NY with her parents and her brother Ralph. She was educated in the New York city school system. After graduating high school and working various jobs, she and a friend took a road trip, driving all the way out to California. She loved everything about California, especially the weather. She was able to secure a job with North Island Naval Air Station and decided to make San Diego her home sweet home for the next 70 years. She started a family and created a beautiful life here. She worked at North Island for 33 years before retiring and was one of the lucky few to enjoy being retired more years than they worked. A wonderful blessing. When asked recently by her doctor if she had a good life, she answered with the most sincere, heartfelt "ohhh yes, wonderful". She was adventurous and loved to travel. She loved to sew and had great style. She was always dressed exquisitely, often in things she had made herself. She loved seafood and her face would just glow behind a plate piled high with crab legs. She loved music, especially jazz and the blues. She loved NBA basketball and was excited about becoming a WNBA Liberty fan just this past season. She gave generously to so many organizations it would be impossible to list them all. She loved her church and her Pastor. She valued her friendships and did her best to stay in touch with friends near and far. She adored, and was adored by her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing, loving mother and we will miss her everyday. We are beyond honored to have had her in our lives. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving and devoted children, Mark Bonner, and Stephanie Bonner of San Diego, CA. Four beautiful grandchildren, Austin Louis Bonner, Avery McNally Bonner, Cole Bonner Purdy, Griffin McKinley Bonner, and many loving relatives and loyal friends.
