Lester V. Rogers' Obituary
Lester V. Rogers was born February 14, 1929 in Jackson Mississippi to Henry and Minnie Rogers. He was one of ten children and attended school in Georgetown, Mississippi. The family later moved to San Diego. After High school, Lester began a career working at the Del Mar Racetrack. He was a diligent employee and retired after 30 years of service. Lester married Earline Payton and the union was blessed with six children. Lester was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his Grandchildren. He was always concientioius about the security of his home and family and was know and respected as the family “Watchman”. Lester had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and for many years attended Greater Fellowship Baptist Church of San Diego. He was an avid Padre fan, loved horse racing and playing Wheel of Fortune at Viejas. He also never missed his favorite TV show Walker Texas Ranger. During the last few years of his life, Lester endured many illnesses that restricted much of his activity. However, even until just a week before his passing, he insisted on remaining independaent and servins as “Watchman” for his family. On Thursday, Octover 15, 2015 God called Laster home. He is preceeded in death by his eldest son, Lester V. Rogers, his parents Henry and Minnie Rogers and siblings, L.C., Johnnie, Willie, Henry Jr., Robert, Harvey, Eddie and Mattie. Lester is survived by his wife, Earline Payton-Rogers, sons LV and Curtis Rogers, daughters Lorraine Askew, Linda Rogers-Davis (James) and Bobbie Rogers and his brother R.D. Rogers, all from San Diego. 31 Grandchildren, 25 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
