Lezetta Marie Davis' Obituary
Obituary Lezetta Marie Morris Davis, was born on March 4, 1923 in Mobile (Plateau), Alabama. She was the tenth and youngest child of Lorenzo Richard Morris and Alice Bradley Morris and was delivered into a family deeply rooted in the love of God, family and community. Plateau provided a rich environment for the Morris family; however following the lead of her older sister Lillian, the family began their migration to Boston, Massachusetts. In 1931 Lezetta, along with her mother, her sister Mabel and brother Walter traveled north and in 1933 their father, brothers Edwin and Roger made their move and the family was reunited once again! Her father was one of the founders of the Mobile County Training School, so education was extremely important to their family. Boston and its surrounding communities were perfect for the academic enrichment desired by her parents. She graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls, attended Talladega College in 1942 and in 1946 received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University College of Liberal Arts. Following the end of WWII, while working in Munich, Germany as the Assistant Club Director for the US Armed Forces, she met her future husband John Lee Davis who was an up and coming officer in the army. Lezetta’s thirst for knowledge continued. She studied at the University of Mexico in Mexico City, the University of Munich Maximilians Strasse, Munich, Germany and received her Master of Science from Columbia University School of Social Work, New York, in 1955. Shortly thereafter she and John were married on August 6, 1955. Due to her husband’s military commitments, they resided in Austin, Texas and Monterey, California before calling San Diego home. While in San Diego they became very active members of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She also was involved in the community as a member of the NAACP and the San Diego Urban League. Lezetta was a social worker for more than fifteen years; however, in 1976 she fulfilled her lifelong dream and graduated from the University Of San Diego School Of Law. She maintained a private practice for more than twenty years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband of fifty years, John Lee Davis, her sister Lillian, brothers Chester, Lorenzo, Thomas, Edwin, Roger, Robert, and sister Mabel. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her brother Walter Morris of El Cerrito, California and numerous loving nephews, nieces, as well as countless friends who will miss her dearly.
