Linda Dobbs Jensen's Obituary
Linda Lou Dobbs Jensen passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Linda is mourned by the five people she loved most in the world: her husband, Bob, and her children Robert, John, Karen and Kathryn.
Linda was born to Olie and Glenna Dobbs in Guymon, Oklahoma in 1940. The family moved to San Diego, California, where Linda would live the rest of her life, when she was just a toddler. Linda and her sisters, Ina and Karen, would sing and dance in performances wearing costumes made by Olie. Linda continued to perform as a majorette at Hoover High School. After high school, she attended San Diego State University (SDSU), earning a degree in Business Administration. Linda never knew a stranger, and had a knack for finding another Hoover or SDSU grad wherever she went.
At SDSU, Linda met the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Robert (Bob) Jensen. It was just about love at first sight for Bob. Linda eventually said yes to a date to a dance, and the rest was history. Bob and Linda were married in June, 1962, and had four children.
Linda worked various jobs throughout her life including as a placement counselor at SDSU. Linda most enjoyed working in the education environment. She loved her time as a substitute librarian for the Cajon Valley Union School District. She was thrilled to work in the attendance office and the career center program at her children’s alma mater, Granite Hills High School until her retirement.
But Linda’s most important and cherished job was that of being Mom to Robert, John, Karen and Kathryn and later Grandma to Claire, Kyle, Erin, Rachel, Eric, Matt and Demetrius. She loved her kids and grandkids intensely, sacrificially and unconditionally. Time together, as a family, was what made her most happy.
We miss her immensely, but remember how Mom loved to dance, sing and twirl that baton. She loved to entertain and make us laugh, and she got silly on nothing more than a glass of ice water. Mom took pictures of everything. If there was a memory to capture, Mom was there to capture it on film. She studied to be a realtor, and therefore we regularly hopped in the car for a ‘ride’ and became the classic realty ‘looky-loos.’ Mom was a master decorator, with a love for color (especially turquoise and peach), second-hand store treasures and tchotchkes. We will never forget the sound of her voice on the other end of the phone saying, “Hi, it’s your mama,” or the comfort of her touch as she gave you the best head scratches. We love you, Mom, and we’ll see you again…
