Lois Trimpe Page, age 91, died quietly in her Santee, CA home on Thursday, January 7, 2016. A 51-year resident of Santee, she maintained a lovely garden including her beloved roses. Many neighbors will miss the fragrance that enveloped those strolling past the house.Born May 27, 1924 in Sabetha, KS, Lois May was the first child of John and Mabel (Fiegenbaum) Trimpe. Later a brother (Marvin) and a sister (Elma) joined her on the Trimpe farm.After high school she left home to attend Business College in Chillicothe, MO. Shortly after that the United States entered WWII and she was one of several students selected to travel by train to Washington, DC. On January 1, 1946 she married Alexander Stephen (Steve) Page, a former sailor from Jacksonville, FL.After moving to Florida the couple began a family. Four daughters – Sandee, Suzee, Gail, and Trudy were born in Florida. Steve returned to the Navy and while they were stationed in San Diego, CA they added a son, Keith. From a Kansas farm, Lois dreamed of traveling to Washington DC, Florida, Texas and California. Thanks to the Navy, she was able to fulfill that dream. Steve and Lois divorced in 1974.Putting down their roots in Santee, CA, Lois worked at The Broadway at Grossmont for 22 years. In her free time, she kept busy with gardening and yard work. After “retiring,” Lois enjoyed working at a local Hallmark shop and made more lifelong friends. The retirees of The Broadway enjoyed meeting at a local restaurant to keep up with each other’s lives and families and made short trips around California together. She also supported and visited the San Diego Zoo.To friends and neighbors Lois exchanged and gifted many of the cuttings from her prolific garden.Lois was a skilled seamstress and made her daughters’ Easter dresses as well as many of her own clothes. When she found it more difficult to work in her garden, she became an avid reader and made many visits to the local library.Lois chose to have her ashes interred with her parents in Topeka, KS. There will be a family memorial service at that time.She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mabel Trimpe, a brother Marvin and leaves behind a sister Elma Claussen, five children Sandra Y Page, Suzee Jernigan, Gail Soape, Trudy Maihack and Keith Page.She had 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and pets.In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the following organizations in honor of Lois: American Cancer Society Disabled American Veterans The San Diego Zoo Your favorite pet charityThere will be a Memorial Service for Family and Friends held at the graveside in the Lutheran Section for Lois May Trimpe Page on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Ave, Topeka, KS 66606.
