Lorraine Denise Askew- Addo's Obituary
Lorraine Denise Askew-Addo (birth-name Lou Rene Payton) was born August 6, 1954 in Pinola, Mississippi to Earline Payton and Walter Joiner. Lorraine was the oldest of Earline’s six children. At an early age, she and her family relocated to San Diego, California, where she attended Logan Elementary, Memorial Junior High, and San Diego High School.
Lorraine worked for 17 years as a solder assembly worker at the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Years later, she pursued a career in care-giving when she opened her own childcare business and became a foster-mother. She retired as a childcare provider in 2018.
Lorraine attended a number of churches throughout the San Diego and Riverside county areas in her pursuit to increase her faith and knowledge in God. Answering the call to become a Chaplain, she attended Grace School of Ministry, where she received her Associates Degree in Religious Studies.
Lorraine was wonderfully blessed with the gift of amazing creativity. Among her many passions was décor and design, which fueled her imagination. She used her talent in diverse ways, from creating a bride’s dream wedding day, to beautifully decorating a number of church sanctuaries and homes. Her ambition to follow whatever her heart most desired was extraordinary. Lorraine’s faith in God gave her the strength and knowledge she needed in order to tackle any obstacle or achieve any goal.
Lorraine had recently traveled to a little town near Savannah, Georgia where she met her new love, Samuel Jones Jr., and found her peace and happiness.
At the age of 66, Lorraine passed away on September 19, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah Georgia. She was preceded in death by her mother Earline Rogers, her father Walter Joiner, her stepfather Lester Rogers and brother Leslie Rogers. She is survived by her brother’s: L.V Rogers of San Diego, CA; Curtis Rogers of San Diego, CA; Walter Joiner Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; Anthony Joiner of San Mateo, CA; Warren Joiner of Hayward, CA; Vincent Joiner of Santa Cruz, CA; her sisters: Barbara Godine (Willie Godine) of San Diego, CA; Linda Davis (James Davis) of San Diego, CA and Vanessa Joiner of Fairfield, CA. her son’s: Willie Gotell-Askew and Terrell Askew of San Diego, CA; her daughter: Amisha Askew of Murrieta, CA; her grandchildren: Aujanee Barton, Jaylen Holloway, Jordan Holloway, Kiani Broom, Jaylah Sanders, Willie Gotell-Askew III, Dezirae Gotell-Askew, Jennelle Askew, Lorrielle Askew, Xavier Askew, Terrell Flores, two great-grandchildren: Neo Barton and Brielle Howell; two goddaughters: Janaia Bruce and Kayla Morgan, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Lorraine was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will always be remembered, by those who loved and knew her, as the loving and caring person she was.
