Lorraine Estelle Browning's Obituary
Mrs. Lorraine Estelle Browning (Junker) died in West Covina, CA on January 11th, 2017 aged 92 years, 11 days. Lorraine is survived by her two sons; Timothy E. Browning (Beverly), of Palmdale, CA and Philip L. Browning (Dottie), of Turlock, CA, her sister Patrica Adams (Wayne), of Salinas, CA, four grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband (W. Edward) of 45 years, and her brother, Larry F. Junker. Lorraine was born on December 31st, 1924 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Elmer and Frances Junker. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1942, from Modesto Junior College in 1944 with a degree in Home Economics and from California State College, Sacramento in 1966 with a degree in Education. She married W. Edward Browning, in 1945. After moving to Nevada City, CA, Lorraine was a substitute teacher in a number of local school districts, and, after graduation in ‘66 continued full-time as an elementary school teacher until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. Her children remember her as a strong mother who encouraged them to persevere and follow after God. During their first years of marriage, Lorraine and her husband served as teachers on Indian Reservations in Utah and New Mexico where their children were born. There she continued an interest in Hand Weaving, begun in a class at Modesto JC. Her lifelong unrealized dream of continuing weaving, nourished almost in secret, was planted in her younger son. Having persevered through many trials, she continually encouraged others, and especially her sons, to remain faithful to their families and her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was passionate about her faith in God and anticipated the day she would go to heaven to be with Jesus. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on Friday, January 27th at Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra, CA with a reception to follow. The Rev. Larry Sharp will officiate at the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lorraine’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Charity of your choice. Condolences can be sent to [email protected] . The family would like to thank the caregivers of Atherton Baptist Homes for their care and patient efforts on Lorraine’s behalf.
