Lovonia Reece's Obituary
Lovonia Reece was born to James and Ruthie Milton in a small suburb of Jacksonville, Florida on May 24, 1926. She was the only child of the couple and as such enjoyed a privileged and comfortable life. She met her husband-to-be, James H. Reece, at a chaperoned social gathering. It was love at first sight! Later, they married and settled down in their first residence on the westside of Manhattan, New York. Their marriage was fruitful and long-lived. They had four children: Patricia Delores, Cornell Henry, Anthony Chyrel, and Kelvin Andre during a marriage which lasted more than seventy years. During the early years of their marriage, Mrs. Reece put her time and energy into raising her children and maintaining her household. As a result, Mrs. Reece was always accessible to her children and she was critical in providing proper guidance to her progeny. She emphasized getting a good education, doing one’s best regardless of the task, persistence, and confidence in one’s abilities. Later in the marriage, Mrs. Reece took on a series of part-time jobs finally, joining her husband as an employee of the New York City Transit Authority where they successfully held several positions until retirement. Both before and especially after retirement, they demonstrated their mutual interest in travel and adventure. Their ventures included the Bahamas, Bermuda, Nova Scotia, southern Maine, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas. The Reeces also embarked upon an approximate 3000 miles change in permanent residence from Long Island, NY to San Diego, CA where they shared their retirement pursuits. Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Reece suffered a massive cerebrovascular accident which left her wheelchair dependent and with aphasia. Mr. Reece died of natural causes in 2009. Mrs. Reece died of natural causes in 2018. She is survived by her four children mentioned above, five grandchildren (Nannette, Kalik, Jamal, David, and Jennifer), and five great grandchildren (Riley, Alexandria, Kendall, Samantha, Charli, Alisa, Kristiana. Mrs. Reece is loved and is deeply missed by all who shared her sphere of the world.Click on SERVICE DETAILS to learn more about the Viewing and Funeral services.
