Lucita Gregorio Moreno's Obituary
Lucita Gregorio Moreno, age 96, received her ticket to heaven, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Scripps Mercy Hospital (San Diego). Departing peacefully with her Gallant Guardians, Marlene & Glenn, by her side.
Lucita was born Wednesday, October 31, 1928 in Manila, Philippines. She was raised by her Catholic parents, Dalmacio Gregorio & Modesta Obias. She grew up alongside her siblings, Daniel, Victorina, Catalina, Robert, Benjamin and Azuzena. Lucy was the eldest daughter and helped raise her siblings. She was the heartbeat of her family. In her teens, she survived the Japanese occupation. With grit and tenacity, she was the longest surviving sibling.
She married Elias DeGuzman. Lucita and Elias brought 3 children into the world: Ricardo, Angelina, and Elias. Her first husband passed and she was left heartbroken with 3 children to raise on her own.
God sent her Porfirio Moreno. They fell deeply in love and got married. Lucy took the valiant step to immigrate to America where they built their life in San Diego, California. They raised Delbert, Anthony, Marlene, and Glenn; Porfirio took on the responsibility of taking care of all 7 of her children. Lucy was a seamstress by trade and designed many wedding dresses and iconic outfits for her family and community. Since the 1960’s, Lucy was an active member of the Filipino Women’s Club where she held various roles over the years. Culturally, Lucy embodied the phrase “Kumain ka na? (Have you eaten?)” - serving neighbors, hungry children, and multiple generations of her family whether it was for the holidays or as a show of kindness.
Lucy & Bello shared 54 years of dances, adventures and inseparable love.
Lucita will fondly be remembered for her heartwarming humor, her vibrant voice, and her infectious smile. Lucy’s family tree continues to grow with 19 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She relentlessly prayed for each and every one of you.
On that last note, Lucy was always real - here are some last words of wisdom she lived by.
“Do everything you can, to take care of each other. Be wise with your words, and reserve judgment. Honor your parents, by being financially independent. Save your money, you’ll never know when you need it. Don’t spend money you don’t have. Build your own empire, be innovative, and don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. Think about the future.”
The Queen passes her legacy to you, the next generation.
God Bless You!
We love you all!
