Her graduation ceremony took place at the famous Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. She kept in touch with some of her high school and nursing classmates for over 70 years!Shortly after finishing nursing school, she married Robert Martin Hogen who worked in civil engineering. Pamela Kay Hogen followed 3 years later in 1953.Luella and her two daughters traveled by car and relocated to sunny Southern California in 1962, where she had a long, fulfilling nursing career until retirement at the age of 70. She worked in hospitals, Doctors offices, skilled nursing facilities, and home health care. She lived in Chula Vista and loved the relationship she had with her church, friends and God, always studying her Bible. She loved animals and nature, and enjoyed learning, listening and conversing about history, geography and politics. Scrabble was her favorite leisure time endeavor. She and her daughter, Pamela, visited the San Diego Zoo often (she was an avid walker), and especially enjoyed watching the East African crowned crane and cuddly panda bears.Luella lived happily and independently until her passing on February 20, 2017, age 91. Her mind was sharp as a tack. In her later years especially, she developed a most loving, caring, supportive and close relationship with Pamela and her son-in-law, John. “Love you always and forever”, unconditional love, compassion, empathy and sympathy were their guiding principles and spirit with each other.Luella worshipped and loved her Lord, and looks forward to being with Him and her loved ones in Heaven.
