Luis E Vicario's Obituary
Luis E. Vicario
August 25, 1935 – January 8, 2023
Born in Durango, Mexico to Socorro Vicario Aguilar, Luis spent his adolescence there before moving to Detroit, Michigan where he attended High School. After high school, he relocated to the San Diego/Baja California region where he met his wife of 50+ years, Luz H. Vicario, and together raised 3 children, every one a college graduate. He was able to secure an entry-level position with SDG&E where he was accepted into the apprenticeship training program that led to his achieving the level of Journeyman Meter Tester. Throughout his career with SDG&E he was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 465) and retired after 38-years of service in 1995.
After retirement, he happily assumed the role of full-time grandfather and shortly thereafter was awarded the moniker of “Huelo” by his grandchildren, a name that stuck and would be addressed as such by friends and family for the remainder of his life. Soon after retirement, he remained active by volunteering with his lifelong church, Our Lady of Angels and other associated Catholic charities, as well as volunteering at National School District Libraries where he never missed a day until the pandemic hit. After relocating to Chula Vista, he attended St. Rose of Lima. He helped raise his grandchildren and spoiled them every chance he got, and was more than happy to join them on vacations that took him near and far, including Japan, Guam, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Huelo was a joyful, generous, loyal, and ethical family man who loved and supported his family near and far and could be counted on to never forget a birthday or participate in special occasions whether happy or sad. He loved music and politics and never missed the opportunity to join his friends for coffee chats every chance he had. He was a proud naturalized citizen of the United States of America who never missed exercising his right to vote.
“Huelo” is survived by his daughter, Luz Vicario, son-in-law, Robert Bareño, his sons Louis Vicario and Gilbert Vicario, and grandchildren: Diego Bareño; Monique Bareño; Rochelle Bareño; Azael Piña; Artemis Piña; Maximus Piña; and Magnus Piña, all of which he loved and will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace, Huelo.
