Mamie Crowder's Obituary
Mamie Crowder was born on September 14, 1932 in Pheonix Arizona to parents Booker T Washington McVea and Gustavia McVea at the hands of a mid-wife. In 1941 Mamie was uprooted to California where she would later become a young mother of nine children. Mamie came from a small family and knew she wanted to have a large family of her own. In 1964 she met Robert H. Crowder. He was her soul mate, the love of her life and the family man who helped her to raise her children and two grandchildren later down the line. Mamie and Robert Crowder were married 30 years before he was called home. There wasn’t anything Mamie wouldn’t do for her family. Her children could always depend on her. She loved spending time with family and would often organize family game nights. Whether it was a board game or a good card game, you name it and she could play it. Mamie also had a love and passion for sewing. She was very creative in her craft and a perfectionist. She made several dresses and outfits for her family and friends throughout the years. She learned her artistic craft from her mother and passed her talents on to her daughter Julia teaching her how to sew and crochet, and also to several granddaughters.Mamie was a very hard and diligent worker. In 1978she made headways in the local San Diego newspaper. She and her daughter Jeanette were a part of a historical moment, becoming San Diego’s first female sanitation engineers and mother daughter team in the department of sanitation. Together they were a dynamic duo. Mamie later retired from the city and started a family business called,” It’s All In The Cut”, with her daughters Peaches and Jeanette.She was a woman of great strength, a woman of character and had a God loving soul. She could always lend words of encouragement to family, friends and even to a stranger. On December 1, 2012 Mamie was called home. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert H. Crowder, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Mcvea and her son Robert Logan. Mamie is survived by her brother Lawrence McVea, her children, Lorisa Logan, Jeanette Allen, LeRoy Dixon, Julia Moore, Edward Childs, Raymond Childs, Gustavus Lawlar, Ozrenetta Howard, several grandchildren, great grandchildren a great- great grandchild, a first cousin Charlesia and many friends who loved her dearly. Mamie Crowder will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace .A memorial service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park 4300 Imperial Ave at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012. A visitation will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary 4300 Imperial at 4 p.m. on Thursday December 13, 2012 The family will be greeting friends and relatives at Friday December 14, 2012 2 pm Burial will follow at Cypress View.
