Manuel Jim Gonzales' Obituary
Manny or “Jim” as he was known to his family was born in Los Angeles, California and was raised in Huntington Beach, California. He graduated from Huntington Beach High School and worked a variety of jobs, including sous chef for the exclusive member’s only restaurant, Club 33 at Disneyland. After Disneyland he worked as a plumber for Minuteman Plumbing Co. in Los Angeles. He worked his way up in the company into management before a brief stint as a Salon Representative for KMS Hair care. In the late 1990’s he moved to San Diego, California and returned to the plumbing industry. Eventually he found work at A.O. Reed Mechanical Contractors in Kearny Mesa, California. Manny started working for the company in the showroom as a Sales Representative and once again worked his way up through the ranks. First as a plumber, then supervisor, manager and finally corporate safety Officer. In his professional life, Manny was an extremely hardworking, honest and reliable employee. As a supervisor and manager he was known to be tough but fair, someone who could be depended on to make sound judgments. He possessed a strong work ethic and always strove for excellence in the performance of his duties. Manny was a loving and loyal Son, Brother, Uncle, Companion and Friend. He was a happy, friendly person who enjoyed playing practical jokes on people and who had a deep and passionate love of music. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, jeeping in the desert, riding his Harley, or just relaxing at home playing his bass guitar or watching movies. He was a huge fan of Facebook and posted often. He enjoyed his life and surrounded himself with people of all different backgrounds and interests. Manny was a truly unique individual who will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives’ he touched. Manny is survived by his brother Skip Watkins and his wife Julie, his sister Betty Soltero and her husband Mario, sister Kathy Sanchez and her husband Gabriel, nieces Layla and Lacy, nephews Anthony, Brian, Lance and Forrest as well as great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Manuel, his mother Leffie and his nephew Richard. Manny leaves behind many people who meant so much to him, his loving companion Michelle Barton and her two special boys Garrett and Kellen. Michelle’s family, special and very close friends Mike McNaughton and Ron Gebhard, Alex (Mijo) Adam and Gloria and so many more. Services for Manny will be held Friday November 22nd 2 pm at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Avenue San Diego, California 92113. A celebration of his life will follow at 7pm in The Captain’s Room at Marina Village, 1936 Quivira Way San Diego, California 92109.
