Manuel Sistos Guevara's Obituary
Manuel Sistos Guevara, 98, passed away on December 4, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.
Manuel was born to Silvestre and Graciana Guevara on May 30, 1923 in the town of Pueblo Nuevo, Guanajuato, Mexico, where he was third in a group of nine siblings.
He moved to Nogales Arizona in his early 20’s, where he met and married Lupe Valencia. Soon after, he entered service in the Army, trained for sharpshooter, but remained stateside during his service. Following his discharge from the Army, he and Lupe settled in San Diego, where he took a job with the San Diego and Coronado Ferry Company, moving people and cars across the harbor. He stayed with the company 20 years, until its closing in 1969 when the Coronado Bridge opened.
Manuel and Lupe raised two sons, Andy and Greg, and built a hillside home where they often hosted visiting relatives.
His father being a conductor and his brother Salvador being a well-known trumpet player, Manuel deeply enjoyed music. He was an adept guitar player, also enjoying piano and organ. He was also eager to join in when people were singing.
He was known for his good humor and his generosity and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister Josefina Corella, son Andy, grandchildren Michael and Cas, and great-granddaughter Eyrie. Click link to below to view service...
