Manuel Rabang Magbanua's Obituary
Manuel "Manny" Magbanua passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024 at the age of 92. Manny was born August 16, 1931 on the beautiful island of Palawan in the Philippines. He came from a family of fishermen and eventually found a career in civil service. Along the way he met the love of his life, Remedios "Remy" Soto, whom he married in 1961. Manny and Remy had two children, Arlene and Erwin. The Magbanuas immigrated to the US in 1974, where Manny eventually found a career in libraries. Among his favorite jobs was doing deliveries for the County Library where he could travel to and experience almost all of the San Diego region. He loved driving almost as much as he loved watching NFL and NBA games. Manny, or "Papang" as we called him, was greatly beloved by his family. He was especially proud of his five grandchildren, Michael, Adam, Jared, Marcelo, and Joseph, and his three great grandchildren Jackson, Max, and Henry. All his life he gave so much of himself to his family and others. We will miss him dearly for his abundant generosity, kindness, friendliness, and humor. Manny enjoyed life simply with minimal fuss, and his wish was to be interred in a similar manner. Services will be held privately with immediate family, but we happily welcome your fond memories of Manny here.
