Margaret Lucille "Peg" Snider's Obituary
Margaret Lucille “Peg” Snider, a longtime former Hamilton, Ohio resident who lived in Carlsbad, died peacefully at home Saturday, January 31, 2015 following complications from a fall. She was age 96.Born April 27, 1918, to Bert and Elsie Snyder, Peg grew up in small towns in Ohio, where she met her future husband, Bruce Snider, when they were fourth-graders. He won her heart at that early age with Valentine candy before their families moved to different towns. After graduating from Eaton High School, Peg attended Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, then began her career as a registered nurse at Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio. She met dear, lifelong friends among the women she worked with there. Peg and Bruce were reunited shortly after graduating from separate high schools, when they ran into each other at a homecoming parade and he asked her parents for permission to take her to the dance afterward.They were married on August 17, 1940, at her parents’ home in Eaton. She left “The Fort” to become a full-time mom after their first child was born. She did photo negative retouching for Bruce, who a studio in Hamilton, and found time to help with her children’s school activities, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, the Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. Peg and Bruce had many friends, whom they loved to entertain at their home on Hamilton-Richmond Road. Their children’s friends enjoyed hanging out at the Sniders’ place, skating on their pond in winter and swimming in their backyard pool in summer.The Sniders moved to California in 1964 and made many new friends they treasured. Always a loving and devoted mother, Peg doted on her family throughout her life. Her friend Eloise once remarked that Peg was never happier than when there was a new baby in the house. Peg never lost her sunny disposition, enjoyment of friends and zest for living. She was especially fond of road trips through her adopted state.She is survived by her four children: Margaret Jean (Jeanie) Merl and Judith Lynn (Judy), Donald Bruce (Don) and John Bryan Snider; and two grandchildren, Alexander John and Emily Jean Merl.
