Margaret Loretta Schmedding's Obituary
Margaret Schmedding was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on September 24, 1917 to Benedict and Mabel Kuhnus. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Dick Kulmus. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona when Margaret was young, where she lived through her high school years. Margaret met Edward Madden, her first husband, during a family vacation in Leavenworth. She returned to Leavenworth where she resided with her husband, and daughter, Vema Lee. The marriage did not last and Margaret returned with Vema to Phoenix where they lived with Margaret’s parents. The entire family moved to San Diego, in 1938. Margaret married Ward Smale in 1940, he passed away in 1967. For many years Margaret worked at San Diego Paper Box Company where she met Edward Schmedding, who she married in 1963. Margaret retired from San Diego Paper Box Company in 1978. Margaret and Ed were married for 17 years when he passed away unexpectedly in 1980. She spent her retirement years amongst her friends and family. She enjoyed playing golf, exercise class and spending time with her large family.She is survived by her daughter Vema (Ray) Justus of San Diego, six grandchildren: Debbie (George) Church ofWasilla, AK, Sherry (Bill) Frandsen of Vista, Karen (Kurt) Schultz of San Diego, Howard (Andrea) Justus of San Diego, Clinton (Elizabeth) Justus of Anchorage, AK, David (Joy) Justus ofCoto de Caza, CA, eighteen great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, and many friends.Memorial services will be held at Greenwood Mortuary, Sunday, February 28th at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
