Margaret 'Peg' Shughrou's Obituary
Margaret L. Shughrou (“Peg”) passed away on May 16, 2014 at her home in Murrieta, CA after a long battle with cancer. Peg was born on February 2, 1932 in Williamsport, PA, the daughter of William P. Young and Margaret (Sheehe) Young. She was a 1949 graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Williamsport and a 1953 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton, PA. Her nursing career included staff work at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport; Driscoll Children’s Hospital, Corpus Christi, TX; Saint John’s Hospital in Oxnard, CA; and a long association with the Allergy and Lung Medical Group in Chula Vista, CA. As a Navy wife, Peg enjoyed traveling the world, including several memorable years on Midway Island, Pt. Mugu and Hawaii. After 24 years of service, 10 relocations, and 24,000 miles traveled, she settled into retirement to enjoy her love of quilting and volunteer work at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. She is survived by her husband Captain John J. Shughrou, Jr. USN (Ret.) and sons David (Corinne) of Temecula, CA; Michael (Nancy) of Temecula, CA; Daniel (Leigh) of Pleasant Hill, CA; Stephen (Jessica) of El Cajon, CA; and Peter (Patricia) of San Diego, CA. Peg is also survived by her grandsons Keith, Brian, Sean, Frank, Jack, and Colin and granddaughters Megan, Madeline, and Grace. Peg’s parents, brother John and sister Mary predeceased her. Peg was a proud Navy Wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed by all. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 293 H St., Chula Vista, CA 91910 Wednesday May 28, 2014, 11AM with burial immediately after at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peg’s name to St. Christopher’s Inn, Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, PO Box 303, Garrison, NY 10524-0303.
