Margaret M. Wood's Obituary
Margaret (Peggy) Wood passed peacefully on June 24, 2015. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on September 7, 1923, to Charles and Phoebe McAfee of Milford, Connecticut, she had two older brothers, Charles and Richard. Peggy married Richard Wood of Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1946. After the birth of their first son, Richard Jeffrey, they moved to New York, eventually settling in Hicksville on Long Island. Daughter, Barbara, and son, David were born there. The family moved to San Diego, California, in 1957, where son, Craig, was born. In addition to being a dedicated mother and homemaker, Peggy enjoyed working with children as an aide at elementary and Montessori schools. She served as second reader at Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist in Point Loma, California, assisted at the Christian Science Reading Room in La Jolla, and at Sunland Home. Richard and Peggy loved to vacation in Hawaii and arranged for several family get-togethers at the condo they rented on Maui. As Richard and Peggy began to require assistance with daily activities, Craig stepped up to provide compassionate care and comfort for both, ultimately assuming the role of full-time caregiver. Peggy is predeceased by her husband, Richard, and survived by her four loving and grateful children and three grandchildren, Angela Wood of Seattle, Kristin W. Samora of Los Angeles, and Andrew Whiffen of Bloomfield, New Jersey.
