Maria Refugio Cobian Garcia's Obituary
Maria Cobian Garcia, lovingly known as Mama Cuca, passed away in her home surrounded by her daughters, in San Diego, California on December 24, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer, she was 92.
She was born in Juchitlán, Jalisco, México to Victoria Cobian. She left Jalisco as a teen for Baja California, where she evolved into a strong, resilient and extremely independent woman.
She had many talents as demonstrated in her cooking, sewing, gardening and architectural design. Her greatest passion was singing and dancing, and her greatest milestone was becoming a professional dancer and having the opportunity to tour in México and the United States for three years. She had a unique flamboyant style, was often the life of the party and loved being the center of attention.
Mama Cuca did not like being an only child and was determined to have a dozen kids! Well, she almost got there. She is survived by her eight children: Vilma, Geraldo, Aida, Nancy, Cecilia, Blanca, Alicia, and Armando. Her 11 grandchildren: Diego, Vanessa, Brenda, Jordan, Krista, Brandon, Gabriel, Bianca, Adrian, Victoria and Joaquin, and 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Maria prayed the rosary often and would invite others to join. She was known for her tremendous faith, crediting God for her accomplishments and for carrying her through the toughest times of her life.
The family would love if everyone wore bright colors to the services, as the bright colors represent her vibrant personality!
