Maria Ines Cortes' Obituary
Maria Inés Cortes, 87, of Alpine and El Cajon, California, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and devotion to her family.
Born to Rosa Alvina Ariza de Sastoque and Rafael Sastoque on July 23, 1938, in Bogota, Colombia, Inés was one of seven children who shared a close bond throughout their lives. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Inés moved with her husband and family to the United States in 1969, then to San Diego in 1978. As a young woman, Inés was a seamstress designing and altering wedding dresses and formal attire. She was a devout Catholic who prayed for her family daily and lived her faith wholeheartedly.
Ines was the beloved wife of Jose Antonio for 67 remarkable years. Together, they raised 3 children: Carlos Cortes (Christine), Jose Luis Cortes (Lina), and Marisol Piete (Doug). She was devoted to her 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren whom she cherished deeply.
A woman of vibrant spirit, she embraced life with enthusiasm and grace. Inés found pure happiness in dancing and music, and a love of travel visiting the pristine beaches of Aruba, the Caribbean Islands, Europe, and the Mediterranean. Her love for cruising and family vacations created countless treasured moments that her loved ones will forever hold dear.
Services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary in San Diego, California on September 10, 2025.
Inés lived each day with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family. Her nurturing spirit touched all who knew her, and her legacy will continue through the many lives she influenced. She was loved deeply and is missed greatly, but she is resting peacefully with Jesus in heaven above. She is forever in our hearts.
